The Role:
An exciting opportunity exists for highly-motivated Emergency Medicine Consultants to join this expanding department that has just welcomed a new Clinical Director of ED.

The Specialist in Emergency Medicine (FACEM) supervises the work of Registrars and Junior Medical Officers (JMO's) and is involved in teaching both junior doctors and medical students. The Specialist will be required to provide some services out of hours, including some weekends.

$2 million has been given to the redevelopment of the Emergency Department to help treat and admit patients quickly by opening more beds and hiring more clinicians, freeing up paramedics to get back on the road sooner.

With this boost, a new ED assessment and streaming model can be established to move patients more quickly through emergency, and increase capacity in the short stay unit. The funding will also help purchase eight new cardiac monitors, an ECG machine and an ultrasound.
Four extra specialist ED doctors, one extra nurse and a radiographer will be employed, while GV Health's capacity to boost treatment at weekend peak times will be assisted by staffing changes to ensure a physio, nurse practitioner and radiographer are on site seven days per week.

The Hospital:
This is an acute and extended care facility which provides surgical, medical, paediatric, obstetrics and gynaecology, intensive care and psychiatry services as well as extended care and regional services.
The Health Service serves one of the most dynamic and fast-growing communities in regional Australia and it has strong ties with metro tertiary hospitals and education centres and can offer opportunities for teaching, further education and research.
The Redevelopment of the Health Service will deliver first class facilities and best practice models of care to meet the growing needs of the local community.
The hospital redevelopment will provide significantly increased capacity, including doubling the Emergency Department, expansion of inpatient wards, adding seven new operating theatres, establishing a new onsite Women and Children's precinct, expanding the Intensive Care / Coronary Care / High Dependency Unit, enhancing medical imaging and dialysis, and improving onsite critical infrastructure services.
The State Government announced $168.5 million in funding for the hospital redevelopment, the design of the new hospital will also include the latest environmental and conservation features to save energy and water consumption.
The construction stage is anticipated to commence in 2018 with completion in 2020.
