Consultant Oncologist - Staff Specialist Oncology

The Role:
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic Consultant Oncologist to join this dedicated team.

The appointee will provide leave cover for the subspecialty of gastrointestinal oncology. Responsibilities will include outpatient care, supervision of trainees/junior medical staff/medical students, attendance at multidisciplinary meetings and participation in research activities of the unit.

The unit supports an active clinical trials research program and has developed translational research links to the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the ANU as well as to the University.These collaborations include biomarker development (cancer stem cells and gene panels), compound screening, novel cancer targeting methods (epigenetic and ribosomal biogenesis) and immune therapeutics. Phase I clinical trial capability is also being developed and the appointee would be expected to contribute to this. Developmental therapeutics and/or translational research experience would be of advantage.

Qualifications and experience:

Registered or eligible for registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner's Regulation Agency.
Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent specialist qualifications. RACP recognised training and experience in Medical Oncology.

The Hospital:
The Hospital is a 600bed tertiary trauma and referral hospital providing services to a population of approximately population 500,000. The hospital provides services in all specialties except major burns, spinal injuries and solid organ transplantation. There are accredited training programs in all major specialties. The hospital is the principal teaching hospital of the Australian National University (ANU) Graduate Medical Program.

Skills & Qualifications Required:
1.Demonstrated ability in clinical practice of Medical Oncology based on sound education and training, with proven ability to practice competently in the specialty, to manage the required caseload and case mix, and to practice safe medicine.

2.Demonstrated commitment to the maintenance and further development of skills in the speciality, including involvement in further education and continuing professional development.

3.High-level communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work as a team member in a multidisciplinary environment. It is expected that the successful applicant will have a track record as a successful member of a clinical team.

4.Demonstrated strong commitment to supervision and teaching at all levels including medical, nursing and allied health professional staff, and evidence of prior experience in supervision and teaching or relevant skills and interest.

5.Subspecialty experience in gastrointestinal oncology.

6.Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to all aspects of clinical governance

Annual Salary: Indicative total package value of up to $365,505 inclusive of salary, applicable allowances and 10.5% super.
