North West

Spanning an area over 300,000 square kilometres, the North West Hospital and Health Service district services the rural and remote communities of the Gulf of Carpentaria and north western Queensland. Medical practitioners are in high demand across the rural facilities in the region, and living in “The Isa” is a wonderful chance to witness the rugged outback, including Camooweal, Mt Isa, Dajarra, Doomadgee, Cloncurry, Karumba, Julia Creek, Mornington Island and Normanton.

Nestled among the magnificent Selwyn Ranges Mount Isa is a unique and progressive city, and is continuing to expand its’ economy and attract professionals and their families to the heart of North West Queensland. Once known as a historical frontier town founded for its’ vast mineral resources, the city has grown into a rich industrial and commercial centre renowned for its laid back, friendly and welcoming nature. Revel in the annual carnival and festivities that is the Mount Isa Rodeo, where the city comes alive for the action of the largest Rodeo of its’ kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

Central West

With four main hospital hubs across the Central West health service district, you will find a variety of rural and remote medicine careers to suit your training and professional goals. The region is well-known and visited for its’ Outback territory and way of life, and is commonly known as the ‘Matilda Country’. Longreach is the tourist hot-spot and the birthplace of Australia’s largest airline company QANTAS. The town is also a major centre for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Other towns across the region include Barcaldine and Winton and offer friendly and laid back communities perfect for the family lifestyle.

Central West is rich in history and offers professionals a diverse and relaxed work-life balance. It is a perfect region to explore with all major centres now flying direct from Brisbane, making it accessible to professionals and tourists like never before.

Cape York

Generalist doctors can enjoy and unforgettable experience and unrivalled career opportunities in the deep Tropics of the Cape. Working in partnership with health workers from the Cape’s Indigenous communities, generalist doctors are responsible for providing a wide range of Primary Health care services.

Indigenous communities represent 56 per cent of a population of just over 12000 people across the district, and an area covering 157,000 square kilometres. The mainland of the Cape is made up of two main towns of Weipa and Cooktown. Adventures and travels beckon across the breathtaking landscape and ocean vistas of this magical region including boating and incredible barramundi fishing to name a few.

Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula

At the Northern tip of Queensland lies the Torres Strait Northern Peninsula Health Service District which includes over 20 islands. Rewarding and diverse careers can be experienced on Thursday Island offering a unique lifestyle and work-life balance to health professionals.

South West

The South West Health Service District is a remote region which covers 319,808 square kilometers. The district, also known as Channel Country is a diverse area which offers a range of career and lifestyle opportunities for health workers, including midwives, nursing and allied health professionals. The main town of Roma is a 6 hour drive from Brisbane, but is still delightfully rural in character with all the conveniences of a city. Roma is also home to the oldest winery in Queensland, the historic Romavilla, and each Tuesday hosts the largest Cattle Sales in Australia.

Commonly known as Channel Country, this diverse remote region of Queensland offers a broad spectrum of career and lifestyle opportunities for medical professionals. The main rural township of Roma (6 hour drive from Brisbane) is a charming yet vibrant country community of 6,500 and an economic powerhouse for the region. Boasting the largest cattle selling station in the southern hemisphere, the town is alive with cattle traders from all over the region every Tuesday and Thursday. The region also enjoys major economic success from the infrastructure investment from the major Gas companies. Roma is still able to offer all the conveniences of a city.
