Clinical Director – Geriatric, Rehabilitation & Palliative Care Medicine

JOB DETAILS

Clinical Director – Geriatric, Rehabilitation & Palliative Care Medicine
Regional Victoria | Major Regional Health Service | Easy Access to Melbourne
Permanent Full-Time | Medical Leadership Opportunity
Relocation Support Available | Excellent Remuneration
Salary package up to $450K

Are you an experienced Medical Specialist ready to take the next step into a high-impact clinical leadership role, without giving up your own clinical practice?
This is an exceptional opportunity to join one of Victoria’s leading regional health services, providing strategic and clinical leadership across Geriatric Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine and Palliative Care, while maintaining up to 50% clinical practice within your own specialty.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out
This is regional medicine without feeling remote.
You’ll join a large, progressive health service employing approximately 5,000 staff, servicing a regional population of more than 320,000 people and providing an extensive range of acute, subacute, specialist and community services.

The hospital offers the scale, clinical complexity and professional opportunities of a major health service, combined with the lifestyle advantages of living outside metropolitan Melbourne.
And when you want the city, Melbourne is approximately around a two-hour drive, making weekends in the city, major events and international travel easily accessible.

The Role
This is a senior medical leadership position with genuine influence across clinical services, workforce development, education and specialist training.
As Clinical Director – Geriatric, Rehabilitation & Palliative Care Medicine, you will provide clinical management, medical leadership and strategic direction across Geriatric Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine and Palliative Care services.

Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer, senior executive leadership, Medical Workforce and fellow Clinical Directors, you will help shape service delivery, workforce planning, clinical governance and the ongoing development of the directorate.

A particularly attractive aspect of the position is its strong education and training portfolio. You will oversee medical education for Monash University medical students within the relevant clinical stream and hold responsibility as Director of Training for the Victorian Geriatric Medicine Training Program.

It is an excellent opportunity for an established Specialist looking to move into a more influential medical leadership position while remaining clinically active, with the added opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the development of the next generation of doctors and specialists.

The Hospital
This is a substantial regional referral and teaching health service with a strong reputation for clinical excellence, education, training and professional development.
You’ll work alongside Geriatricians, Rehabilitation Physicians, Palliative Care Physicians, registrars, junior medical staff and an extensive multidisciplinary allied health workforce.

The broader service incorporates comprehensive medical, surgical, rehabilitation, community and clinical support services, including Medical Imaging, Pharmacy and Pathology.
For specialists seeking leadership progression, this provides an opportunity to take on an influential role within a health service large enough to offer complexity, infrastructure and career development, while retaining the accessibility and collegiality of regional practice.

The Lifestyle
One of the biggest attractions is what happens outside the hospital.
You can enjoy the benefits of living in one of Victoria’s major regional centres, with excellent schools, restaurants, cafés, wineries, sporting facilities, parks, walking and cycling trails, shopping and cultural attractions.
Compared with metropolitan living, there is the potential for shorter commutes, greater housing choice and more time outside work, while Melbourne remains close enough for regular weekends away.

It’s an excellent option for specialists wanting to step up professionally without sacrificing lifestyle.

What We’re Looking For
We are interested in hearing from experienced Medical Specialists who can demonstrate:
  • Fellowship of an applicable specialist medical college, or equivalent
  • Full unconditional specialist registration with AHPRA
  • Significant senior-level clinical experience
  • Medical leadership and service management experience
  • An understanding of clinical governance, workforce, funding and budgets
  • The ability to lead and develop multidisciplinary clinical services
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
If you’re an experienced Specialist considering your next leadership move, this is an opportunity to combine executive-level influence, continued clinical practice and an enviable lifestyle within one of Victoria’s leading regional health services.

Ready for Your Next Leadership Opportunity?
If this opportunity aligns with your experience and leadership aspirations, we would be pleased to hear from you. Please submit your current CV or contact Nicki Wade for a friendly and confidential discussion.
