A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join a leading mental health service in South East Sydney, assuming a senior position within the Mental Health Intensive Care Unit. This full-time, permanent role provides both hands-on clinical practice and leadership oversight of a specialised unit caring for patients with acute psychiatric challenges. The role combines direct patient care with strategic involvement in service planning, clinical governance and quality improvement, offering a platform for those looking to shape the future of high-intensity mental health care.
In this role, you will provide expert clinical care to patients experiencing severe psychiatric conditions, working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. You will be responsible for guiding and mentoring both junior and senior medical staff, fostering professional development and ensuring high standards of patient care. The position involves active participation in unit governance, risk management and initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery.
Beyond clinical duties, the role includes offering consultative support across the local health district, contributing to coordinated care and engaging in the education and training of medical students, trainees and allied health professionals. There is also scope to contribute to research projects, evaluate clinical programs and drive innovative approaches to mental health service provision. This position is particularly suited to psychiatrists seeking accelerated career growth and leadership experience within the Australian public mental health system, including those trained internationally who are ready to take on a senior leadership challenge.
