An exciting opportunity is available for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join an evolving mental health service in Geraldton, Western Australia. With a $190.3 million redevelopment reshaping the health campus, this is your chance to contribute to a modern, forward-thinking regional service designed to deliver outstanding patient care.
A purpose-built Mental Health Inpatient Unit is opening soon, featuring 15 beds including 4 Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) beds. Co-located with the Community Mental Health Clinic, the service has been intentionally designed to strengthen integrated care pathways and ensure continuity across inpatient and community settings.
The service you will be joining delivers pharmacological, psychological and therapeutic interventions through a strong multidisciplinary framework. Caseloads are well managed and on-call requirements are reasonable, encouraging a healthy balance between work and personal life.
The service has a strong commitment to education and research, with established partnerships with the local Rural Clinical School and universities, and a structured Rural Psychiatry Training Pathway.
About the role
The successful applicant will be joining a well-established medical workforce comprising a Director of Clinical Services - Mental Health, seven Consultant Psychiatrists, seven Trainee Registrars, Resident Medical Officers and interns. The culture is collaborative, supportive and focused on shared learning.
In this role, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment and management for adults across both inpatient and community settings, including ECT. You will offer expert clinical consultation and advisory support to GPs and wider healthcare partners throughout the region, while working closely with key stakeholders to strengthen coordinated service delivery. The position also involves contributing to service planning, development, evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives, as well as supporting the teaching, supervision, and mentorship of trainees and junior doctors.
