About the role

This Senior Psychiatrist position offers a rewarding opportunity to provide specialist mental health care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum. You will play a key role in delivering expert psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, working within a dedicated and multidisciplinary team committed to high-quality, person-centred care.

The role is primarily consultation-liaison in nature, supporting both community and inpatient teams with specialist input, while also managing a small direct caseload of patients. This ensures a dynamic and varied scope of practice, allowing for both collaborative and independent clinical work.

In addition to clinical duties, you will contribute to broader service development, quality improvement, education, and research initiatives - helping to shape the future of care for a vulnerable and often underserved population.

The role offers leadership opportunities within the mental health service, encouraging innovation and advocacy in a supportive environment. You may also have the option to establish a private practice alongside your public role, with assistance provided for credentialing, admin support, and networking with local referrers.

Based in a beautiful region of Queensland, this position combines professional fulfilment with an affordable, high-quality lifestyle and excellent employment benefits.

About the region

Located along Queensland’s stunning coastline, the Wide Bay region offers an unbeatable blend of natural beauty, relaxed living, and professional opportunity. Home to the picturesque towns of Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, and Maryborough, the region boasts pristine beaches, World Heritage-listed Fraser Island, lush hinterlands, and a rich cultural heritage.

Enjoy a laid-back lifestyle with a lower cost of living, affordable housing, and minimal commute times - perfect for families, professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Whether you are into water sports, hiking, whale watching, or exploring local food and wine, Wide Bay has something for everyone.
