About the location
Tasmania’s South Region is known for its relaxed pace, friendly communities and the kind of natural beauty that nurtures genuine wellbeing.
Beyond work, there is no shortage of things to enjoy. Hobart’s vibrant arts and festival scene - home to MONA, Dark Mofo, Taste of Summer, and a full year of performances - creates a culturally rich yet welcoming atmosphere. Nature lovers are equally spoilt, with world-class bushwalking on Mount Wellington, kayaking on the River Derwent, boating and fishing in the Huon, and effortless day trips to Bruny Island’s beaches and wildlife areas.
Sport and recreation are woven into local life, with thriving community clubs, sailing, cycling, trail running, football and cricket leagues, and excellent facilities for families. The region’s food culture is another highlight: fresh local produce, vineyards, markets, distilleries, and award-winning restaurants contribute to a satisfying and distinctive lifestyle.
The South Region also offers an appealing blend of affordability, accessibility, and quality of life. Housing ranges from character-filled city homes to tranquil coastal and rural properties, often at more attainable prices than on the mainland. Families benefit from a strong network of educational options, including well-regarded public and independent schools, TAFE campuses, and the University of Tasmania’s major Hobart precinct. Getting around is easy, thanks to reliable public transport, well-connected roads, and short commute times that make daily life simpler and more relaxed.
