About the roles

The Brisbane region is supported by a network of well-established tertiary, general, and specialist hospitals that deliver high-quality healthcare services within modern, progressive, and academically engaged environments. Mental health services operate across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, providing integrated, recovery-oriented care for individuals with severe and complex mental illness, often alongside co-occurring substance use or physical health conditions. Care is delivered through multidisciplinary teams, ensuring comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing support across the continuum of care, with strong links between hospital services, community mental health teams, and primary care providers.

As a Consultant Psychiatrist working across adult inpatient or community services, you will provide senior clinical leadership across acute inpatient units and community-based programs, including outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary team reviews. Responsibilities include comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex presentations, as well as consultation–liaison support to general hospital services for patients with co-morbid medical and psychiatric needs. These roles also involve clinical governance, teaching and supervision of trainees and junior staff, participation in quality improvement and research activities, and contribution to service development. Participation in an after-hours on-call roster is expected, providing specialist psychiatric advice and support for acute presentations across inpatient and emergency settings.
