An outstanding opportunity is available for an experienced medical leader to join a major regional Queensland health service as Deputy Chief Medical Officer / Director Medical Services.

Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer / Executive Director Medical Services, this is an influential executive position with responsibility for medical workforce strategy, education, credentialing, clinical governance and professional medical leadership.

The Opportunity
You will provide strategic and operational leadership across:
  • Medical workforce planning, recruitment, retention and service delivery
  • Medical education and prevocational medical training
  • Credentialing and scope-of-clinical-practice governance
  • Clinical governance, quality improvement and patient safety
  • Strategic planning and development of clinical services
  • Professional standards, ethical practice and medical workforce performance
  • Sustainable workforce strategies for regional, rural and remote services
The position leads the Medical Workforce, Medical Education and Credentialing functions and is supported by an established multidisciplinary leadership team.

As part of the health service’s senior leadership structure, you will work closely with clinical directors, operational leaders, executives and external stakeholders to strengthen medical governance and support the delivery of safe, sustainable and high-quality patient care.

This major regional health service is one of the area’s largest employers and delivers acute, specialist and community-based care through an extensive network of hospitals and health facilities.

The principal hospital is a modern, redeveloped and fully digital regional referral centre equipped with contemporary clinical technology. It was Queensland’s first regional hospital to implement a fully integrated electronic medical record.

About You
You will be an experienced, credible and collaborative medical leader who can demonstrate:
  • Leadership of complex medical workforce, education and credentialing functions
  • Experience providing high-quality strategic and executive-level advice
  • Strong clinical governance, patient safety and continuous-improvement expertise
  • The ability to build trusted relationships across clinical, operational, executive and external stakeholder environments
  • A sound understanding of regional and rural medical workforce challenges
  • Experience developing practical and sustainable workforce strategies
  • A strong commitment to professionalism, integrity and ethical practice
Essential Requirements
Applicants must hold:
  • A medical degree recognised by AHPRA for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia
  • Current or eligibility for medical registration with AHPRA
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA), significant progress towards Fellowship, or substantial senior medical-administration experience assessed as equivalent
  • Recent clinical practice relevant to the responsibilities of the position and consistent with Medical Board of Australia registration standards
  • The ability to obtain and maintain the credentialing and Scope of Clinical Practice required for the role
Applicants who have not completed RACMA Fellowship must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to appropriate continuing professional development in medical administration.
