As valued member of the Child and Youth Mental Health Service, you will provide high level quality rural mental health care including case management, assessment and acute care service, mental health promotion and education, and consultation liaison services to the young mental health clients and their families within the community of the Hinterland Hub, as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Cassowary Area Mental Health Services Cassowary Area Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is part of the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) and provides mental health services from Fishery Falls in the north to Bilyana in the south, and west to Palmerston in the Tropical North Queensland. Services provided include intake/triage, assessments, case management, treatment interventions, and consultation with a health promotion and recovery focus.
You will be able to:
- Demonstrate professional competencies in providing evidence-based assessment and treatment methods as relevant to children, adolescents and their family/carers, with the ability to adapt or modify standard methods or procedures to accommodate the needs of children and young people in and out of home care who present with severe and complex mental health problems.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills and expertise in the provision of therapeutic services to young people and their family/carer including the application of relevant legislative and duty of care obligations applicable to working within a specialist mental health service.
- Demonstrate ability to apply well developed interpersonal and communication skills within a multi-disciplinary environment, including negotiation, consultation and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrate knowledge of quality improvement processes, activities, and ability to apply validated research to clinical practice.
The town has a vibrant retail centre with some national stores and many smaller specialty shops. Innisfail has a large and diverse range of Art Deco buildings, the CBD was largely rebuilt in this style following a cyclone in 1918 which destroyed much of the town. Today you can explore the buildings on The Innisfail Town Walk where you also will find The Chinese Temple, one of only a few still in use in Queensland.
Other local attractions include the award-winning “Paronella Park”, Snapping Tours, Art Deco Tours and the Australian Sugar Museum where you will find all the information on the local Sugar Industry history. Warrina Lakes, a 50 hectare recreational park has kilometres of walkways through open parkland, lakes, wooded areas and rainforest trails. Within the park you can visit the Bushtucker Gardens, established by the Mamu traditional owners, the Bill Markwell Botanical Gardens and Anzac Grove.
Wooroonooran National Park, with the Mamu Canopy Walkway and walking trails through the Misty Mountains, is 27km west of Innisfail.
Local beaches within a short drive from town include Etty Bay, Flying Fish Point, Cowley Beach and Kurrimine Beach.
