The Speech Pathologist is responsible for clinic triage, prioritisation, and diary management with the support of an Allied Health Assistant to help deliver therapy plans and complete administration tasks.
- The focus of the role is paediatric outpatients
- Some paediatric clients will be short-term and require onward referrals to the NDIS.
- Home visits may be required for some patients.
- The role covers a wide range of clinical areas including phonological delays, language delay, dysphagia assessment & management, voice disorder and acquired communication impairments.
- The speech pathologist is supported by an Allied Health Assistant (Grade 3) who provides paediatric therapy under the delegation of the speech pathologist.
The details:
- ASAP for 3 months
- Contract Hours: 64-72 hours per fortnight
- Roster: Monday to Friday 0830-1700- early finish on Friday

URGENT North QLD - Locum Hospital Speech Pathologist
Experienced Speech Pathologist required for a hospital based in North Queensland. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of allied health staff, including other Speech Pathologists. You’ll cover a mixed caseload working across inpatient and outpatient caseloads across the lifespan, paediatrics to adults.
- Hours would be 0800-1630 Monday to Friday with 1 hour unpaid break (7.5 hours per day)
- Accommodation can be provided for the candidate for the length of contract
- Up to $1000 (incl. GST) will be reimbursed to assist with one way travel
- Working amongst the multidisciplinary team which is young and dynamic. The team regularly plan weekend adventures including camping, rodeos, and local events like wine festivals, balls, markets, and sporting events. We even hold an Allied Health Ball every year to celebrate all Allied Health Clinicians in North West Queensland. We have a few gyms in town including a yoga studio, Anytime Fitness, Pilates studio, a public pool and plenty of outdoor walking areas. There are cafes, a library, Kmart, Woolies and Coles, Harvey Norman, and a couple of specialty stores. The area is surrounded by cattle stations and you can even feed some camels just down the road from the Hospital! There’s a large freshwater lake 10km out of town where people regularly paddleboard, water ski, swim, and kayak to get their water fix, and there’s lots of water holes/water falls that can be visited after wet season to keep cool.
- There are daily flights to Brisbane and Townsville and some direct flights throughout the week to Cairns.

This is a level 3 solo Rural Generalist role which supports inpatients and outpatients with acquired communication and swallowing impairments on background neurodegenerative conditions, acquired brain injury, head and neck cancer and other medical conditions.
- Acquired communication disorders covers the range of speech, voice, language, and fluency disorders.
- Acquired brain injury, stroke, neurological diagnosis, oncology and TBI.
Open to Level 2 & 3 clinicians. FREE simple hospital accommodation (single room, shared kitchen and single sex bathroom). The location is a great rural town with lots of cultural, food and exercise/sport options and easy access amenities (cafes, Big W, 3 supermarkets). 2hrs from Canberra, 2hrs from Wagga, 2hrs from Orange.
Locum rates upto $76 per hour + super + potential for living away from home benefits (more take home pay!). $200 each way towards travel.
Permanent rate from $116 -$120k, increasing to $120-$125k in July per annum + superannuation.
