Telehealth Psychiatrist

JOB DETAILS

I'm excited to share that I'm now partnering with a leading telehealth-only mental health service, working alongside psychiatrists across Australia. This partnership is with a fully supported, dedicated telehealth practice.

The model is designed to make life easier for specialists by handling all referrals, admin, and tech setup, allowing you to focus solely on patient care. With a strong reputation and a collaborative team of over 50 specialists, it offers the flexibility, peer support, and professional freedom many of us are looking for in private practice.

Why work with this service?

It offers more support, more freedom, and a greater ability to focus on your patients. The administrative burden is removed so you can do what you do best—practice psychiatry. With a highly experienced operations team, access to peer support, flexible scheduling, and a commitment to delivering mental healthcare to underserved populations, this is a modern, well-supported alternative to traditional private practice.

Are 19AB-restricted doctors eligible?
Yes. This telehealth model is well suited to 19AB-restricted doctors, as it enables you to work with patients in eligible areas across Australia without needing to relocate. The service ensures compliance with Medicare regulations, so you can focus on clinical care while practicing from your current location.

What kind of administrative support is provided?

Everything is taken care of, including:

  • Patient triage and appointment coordination
  • Pre-consultation paperwork
  • Reception and billing
  • Connectivity support during sessions
You’ll also have access to a dedicated IT team, billing advisors, and clinic coordinators.

How do referrals work?

You’ll be matched with patients suited to your skills and preferences. All referrals are screened and coordinated, so you're never dealing with the wrong type of case or poorly prepared clients. Expect a mix of private patients and those referred through government programs.

What are the fees or costs involved?

There are no upfront fees. Payment for your services is managed centrally to simplify the process and eliminate patient debts. You’re paid weekly, with detailed statements provided. The operations team also works hard to minimise patient no-shows—one of the biggest cost issues in telehealth.

What flexibility is there with work arrangements?

You can:

  • Work from anywhere in the country.
  • Use shared offices in major cities (e.g. Sydney or Perth) at no charge
  • Set your own schedule and consult as often or as little as you’d like
A minimum of 6 billable hours per week is required, with a preference for 12 or more hours. Hours are available during weekdays, weekends, and afterhours—up to 8 PM local time—offering flexibility to fit your lifestyle and availability.

What kind of software or tech is needed?

  • A complete technology package is provided, including:
  • Secure video conferencing
  • MIMS e-prescribing
  • Electronic medical records and practice management system
  • Dedicated IT support
  • Everything is designed to make consultations seamless and secure.

Will I be working alone?

Not at all. You’ll become part of a supportive multidisciplinary team. Benefits include:

  • A dedicated Medical Director and advisory committee
  • Peer support via instant messaging and regular meetings
  • Monthly peer review sessions to meet CPD needs
  • Clinical second opinions and professional backup
What are the patients like?

Clients are a diverse mix of privately paying individuals and those supported through government partnerships (e.g. regional and rural patients). Many consultations involve collaborative care, with GPs, psychologists, or mental health nurses often joining sessions to support treatment plans.

Can I really switch from public to private with ease?

Yes. Many psychiatrists transition from the public system. With full admin, tech, and scheduling support, the switch is seamless. You can scale your workload up or down depending on your needs—perfect for returning from leave, managing childcare, or easing into retirement.
