What does an General Medicine doctor get paid?

General Medicine doctor pays are influenced by location and season, however, typical salaries can be in the range of

  • $250 000 - $500 000+ for permanent positions
  • $2000 - $3000 per day for locum consultant positions
  • $1500 - $2500 per day for locum junior positions

International Medical Graduates – Applying for Specialist Recognition of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP)

Before applying for a Specialist opportunity or in a Specialist training program in Australia, it is essential for your qualifications and experience to be evaluated by the RACP specialist training committee. The RACP has two types of assessment programs. The Overseas Trained Physicians (OTP) is for international doctors that have already completed their Specialist training abroad and seeking a specialist job in Australia. The second is for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who have completed a medical degree abroad and interesting in completing a Specialist training program in Australia. The evaluation process aims to assess the ability of IMGs and OTPs, to practice Internal Medicine at a comparable standard to that required of an RACP.

Pursuing a Fellowship in Internal Medicine

To become a Physician, the RACP has various training pathways, linked to comprehensive training curricula, complemented by on-the-job training, while working with and learning from experienced clinicians. There are many areas of specialist interest you may choose from when practicing Internal Medicine. The RACP provides training pathways to become a physician in Australia within your specific area of interest.

Fellowship is gained in Australia and New Zealand from the specialist qualification known as Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRACP).Only Fellows of RACP can use the trademark qualification of, FRACP, which is a world-wide recognised qualification trademark.

Scope of Practice for Physician

Physicians are also known as Medical Specialist. Medical Specialists are doctors who have completed 8 years on top of their initial medical university degree. These Doctors specialise in Internal Medicine complex medical problems. Doctors who specialise in Adults are referred to as Physicians while Doctors who specialise in children and adolescents as referred to as Paediatricians.
